Kaiser pass road opening date 20188/31/2023 Muir Trail Ranch really doesn't like hikers. We had a great experience and it was right off the trail with campsites close by to tuck in for the night. Read what they offer and don't expect anything more than that. We took care of our business and went along the way. A woman offered my daughter a phone charging cord since hers had broken on the trail. It was quiet because of Covid, so certainly allowed time for a friendly encounter. We wore our masks and were pleasantly greeted. Upon arrival, we followed instructions and rang the bell. We understand the backpacking culture but not everyone does. If I was paying a significant amount of money for a room I can see how some clients would not want backpackers on the grounds roaming around. I do not have a problem with that at all. If you are not staying on their property they are clear with what they offer with their resupply service. They are trying to run a 'family style' business for patrons staying on their property. They want you to pick up your supplies, empty your trash, charge your electronics and move on. On their website, their expectations are clearly stated. We loved VVR of course and we really enjoyed our brief time at JMR as well. We used JMR for the resupply because it was further along on the trail. While hiking the JMT we went to both VVR and JMR. We will make MTR a base for some of our future adventures for sure. The absolute cherry on top was: access to the private hot springs with Japanese style bath!!! We met the owners and some of the staff and got to know them as very genuine, friendly and hospitable individuals. Best decision ever!!!!! The cabin came with a wonderful home cooked dinner (think thick pork chops, fried chicken) and an equally impressive cooked to order breakfast the next morning. We noticed a sign that a hiker cabin was available for rent, which we took advantage off since we had a very rough four days behind us. They quickly retrieved our bucket so we could restock our bear canisters for the next seven days. Arriving at the re-supply shack was fun, a great vibe and a warm welcome by the resort owner. We arrived 2-days past our anticipated date due to getting caught in a major storm in the high elevations. This was our second resupply spot during our JMT 2022 NoBo through-hike during July/August.
